We recently had the privilege of decorating our friend Kelly's front porch for Halloween. Several hundred people will be visiting Kelly's porch seeking goodies on Halloween. Keeping that in-mind, we wanted the porch to be welcoming but still have a bit of Halloween eeriness.
Kelly's porch has a nice depth so we needed a few sections of decoration to cover the entire surface. The first section we decorated was the front door. The door is covered with homemade bats moving across the door from the lower left corner and ending in the upper right corner. The second section we added lays on the porch, and consists of two large hay bales on either side of the door with crates filled of hay, corn, and pumpkins on top. To add a sense of eeriness we placed black rats, crows, and owls sporadically on top of the pumpkins. The next section is the pillars were we placed spiders crawling up and around the archway. The final section is in front of the pillars where we added two wood tables covered in cobwebs. We placed lanterns and pumpkins on the tables and up the steps. The light from the lanterns not only illuminates the porch but creates a path for trick and treaters.
