Summer is here! One of our favorite summer pastimes is having friends and family over for BBQ's. Summer BBQ's typically consist of beer and meat which is a classic combination that we do not care to change. However, you can mix things up and create some fun interaction between guests by changing up the way you serve the beer. Instead of just throwing bottles and cans into the ice chest, why not host a beer tasting?
Craft beers are on trend. Whether you brew it at home or seek out favorites from the store, having a craft beer tasting at your next BBQ will be a hit.
First, you will need a variety of beers. Wrap the bottles in paper (we used grocery bags but feel free to get creative) and label the beers in numeric order from light to dark or in increasing strength of hop flavor, similar to how you would in a wine tasting so that your guests can progress through the flavors while making tasting notes. We created our own beer labels and tasting notes, which you can use by downloading the .pdf file here: (beer label link)
Here are a few tips for throwing your beer tasting BBQ party:
- Research the beer before you pour, you're the host you should know what your serving plus it will impress your guest.
- Keep a bowl of crackers near by for palette cleansing
- Make sure there is water near by for drinking between tastings

As for the tablescape, we kept it simple using neutral colors. The centerpiece is small vases filled with fresh herbs for your guests to use on their food for flavor. Although, craft beers don't need lemon or orange for flavoring, there might be people at your party who don't want to taste and just want a Blue Moon. For those people we placed fruit wedges on the table, for easy access plus it adds the perfect pop of color.
